Kunimitsu returns as the first DLC character of Tekken 8’s Season 3. Bandai Namco premiered her gameplay trailer at EVO Japan 2026 immediately after Top 8 on May 2, with the official release date confirmed the following day across IGN, Game8, FinalWeapon, and esports.gg.

What the EVO Japan trailer showed

The trailer dropped immediately after the Tekken 8 Top 8 finals at EVO Japan 2026 on May 2, after weeks of public anticipation (Reddit r/Tekken thread noted Bandai’s pre-announcement schedule).

Per esports.gg’s recap and The Outer Haven’s coverage, the trailer showcased:

  • Her signature kunai-throwing kit, updated for Tekken 8’s mechanics
  • High-mobility ninjutsu approach
  • A Rage Art where she summons magical katanas
  • Her positioning as the “Enchanted Thief”

Bandai’s promotional language describes her as returning with “evolved Ninjutsu arts” — meaning the moveset has been redesigned around Tekken 8’s Heat system rather than ported wholesale from Tekken 7.

Season 3 Character Pass — full lineup

The Season 3 Character Pass (available since February 10, 2026) includes four characters:

  1. Kunimitsu — May 27 / June 1, 2026
  2. Bob — Summer 2026 (announced, not dated)
  3. Roger Jr. — Autumn 2026 (announced, not dated)
  4. Yujiro Hanma — Winter 2026 / early 2027 (revealed at Combo Breaker 2026, May 24)

Plus a new stage in Winter 2026 and the Aurora Outfit Pack cosmetic (available since February 10).

Kunimitsu’s history in the series

Kunimitsu first appeared in the original Tekken (1994) as a Yoshimitsu rival with a kunai-throwing kit. She returned in Tekken 2, appeared in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and was added to Tekken 7 as a Season 4 DLC character (where she became a top-tier tournament pick in Anna Williams-tier hands). Her omission from Tekken 8’s launch roster created sustained community demand for her return — Bandai answering with first-DLC priority for Season 3 was widely read as direct response to that pressure.

Why this drop matters for the meta

She lands with patch 3.01 on May 28.
